Trees and Timber I   |   1992   |   Installation   |   180 x 335 x 92cm

This is the first of the "Environmental series" produced by Yuk Fai who used a suspenseful illusive technique by taking a portion of the tree trunk from the painting and replacing it with a real trunk placed in front. One sees not only the painting but also the destruction thereafter. He used these two media to represent the total destruction. Yuk Fai skillfully separated the two paintings to augment the multiple relationships among the various spaces that existed - the empty space between the paintings, the space left by the removed tree trunk, the space between the painted medium and the real tree trunk.
